Week 15-Using Games for teaching and Learning

This week we discussed the use of games for teaching and learning. I found some of the games that were posted actually pretty fun and helpful in learning certain skills. I believe educational games are a great way for kids to learn. Obviously not everything can be taught by games but some things can. For example in Elementary school when we were learning how to type faster, there was this game where you raced other cars and your car went faster the faster you could type the word on the screen and it was entertaining and fun. However I always lost because I couldn't type and still "pick" at the keys.

If I became a teacher of some type which I am interested in then I would definitely try to incorporate games into my teaching especially the younger the kids were I taught because I remember it was always a lot easier to learn when your enjoying what your doing.

Week 14-Distance Education and Virtual Schooling

This week we learned about Distance Education and Virtual Schooling. Virtual School is much like online classes in college where students can work at their own pace to a certain extent. However it is becoming more popular to "home school" kids from K-12 grades and they use virtual schooling to work at their own pace. I am not a big fan of Virtual schooling at really any level. I struggle to keep up with online classes becasue I do not have to go class most days so I tend to forgot about assignments and get behind online classes. I also strongly disagree with Home Schooling throughout high school. My cousins are home schooled and I know people that have been Home schooled and I find them very ill-prepared for college and alot of the time socially awkward. I learned so many valuble life lessons just going to school everyday and having to interact with my peers and teachers. And I benefited from not being in a "safe" environment all the time kids need to learn that there not always going to get their way and going to a normal school teaches this. I know it sounds harsh but it's true.

I use Virtual Schooling a lot during college, for example I am taking 3 mostly online classes this semester. I don't think I will be able to use Virtual Schooling and Distance education once I graduate but it is very effective now. For some people this type of schooling works very well espiesally for people whoare very driven but prefer to work at their own pace, however it is not for me.

Week 13- Creating a Profesional Web Presence

This week in Class we discussed the importance of having a professional web presence and how to make one through Google. We used Google sites to start creating our website in class and learned how to use Google Sites. Having a Website is very important because it may help us get a job in the future. Future employers could look up our website and find everything they need to know about us in a very Professional Website.

Being able to create a professional website could definitely help me in my future career. If I were to work for any company I would know how to create a website for them. Knowing how to do this really gives us another skill to put on our resume. A lot of jobs may require a website and knowing how to make one only adds to our ability to get hired.

Week 12- Social Tools and Cloud Computing

This week in class we discussed cloud computing and some social tools. We talked about Google Docs which is an example of cloud comuting becuase once some one uploads a Google Doc they can allow other people to not just view it but also edit it so this workd really well for group projects and such.

If I become a football coach I could defiantly use Google Docs. For the Gameplan each week, I could upload it on a Google Doc so the other coaches could view and edit it before we discussed it with the team.

This is a great Article about cloud computing that really explains because I'm sure most people like me have almost no idea what cloud Computing is.

Week 11-Open Source Software

This week we learned about Open Source Software. Open Source Software is a great tool for College students like us! There are programs are literally almost just like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. This is great for college students who are tight on money which is about 99% of normal college students because almost every student will need to use word or power point  multiple times in college and this is a great way to be able to use programs just like these for free!

I may not need to use this software in my career field but I could certainly use it right now. I mean what college student wouldn't want to save a little money especially when you can programs that are just as good.

Week 9- The sound of...Podcasting

This week we learned in depth about pod-casting. Pod-casting can be used for so many things and they are a ton of free Pod-casts on itunes that you can easily download. Some teachers will use Pod-casts to record lectures and then if a student is absent they can just download the lecture from itunes so they can easily catch up in the class.

If I were to be a radio broadcaster, I could record each show to a Pod-cast and post them on the Internet so more people can listen to the show but there are so many uses for pod-casting that just about any field could find some use for a pod-cast.

Week 8-Digital Storytelling

This week in Class we discussed Digital Storytelling and we were introduced to pod-casting a little bit. The readings this week talked about audio learners and how many people learn by hearing. However I am not one of them, I learn much better through visual things but this can be very helpful to some people.

Digital Storytelling would be a great way to advertise a company or a sports team if I were to become an advertiser for a sports team or some company of that type.

week 7- Visual Literacy

This week we continued discussing Visual Literacy and it will be apart of our everyday life. We specially started using Photoshop. This is a very fun, interesting program that lets you create a picture or edit any existing picture and make any kind of changes you may want to. At first it seems a little confusing but once you get the basics of Photoshop down, it becomes very easy to use.

Even though I may not be able to use a program like Photoshop in my career field. It is definitely a program I will use in the future. I will need it for school projects in which it can be very helpful. Also I could use it to edit any personal photos I have if I want to add a little brightness to a picture or something of that nature.

Week 6 Media Information and Literacy

This week in Class we learned and discussed Visual Literacy. Simply put Visual Literacy is putting education into pictures or movies and sideshows so that students can learn from these images.As a Visual learner this is a very good way for me to learn anything from academics to learning a new play at football.

Having knowledge of Visual Literacy and being able to use programs such as Photoshop or even just power point can really help in almost any modern field of work. For Example I might want to become a teacher one day where I will use many of these skills to help visual learners like my self understand the principles I am teaching.

Week 5- Tech Tools for critical thinking

In Class, week 5, we learned how technology can aid us in critical thinking and how programs such as wordle and webspiration can help us in critical thinking. I actually had previous experience using webspiration from a middle school computer class so the project was pretty easy and fun for me to make.

In my field I could easily use this mindmapping whenever I wanted to make a plan or a list of needs for just about anything. For example, in High School I had alot of trouble writing papers so my dad made me start using Webspiration to plan out what I was gonna write about first.

During my junior year in high school, my English teacher made everyone create a Wordle for every paper we wrote to see which words we were emphasizing and I don't no if it ever really helped me that much but I always thought they looked pretty cool so here is a Link to the wordle website.

Week 4-Copyright Law, Plagiarism and Ethical Issues

In Class this week we learned how to design "instructional media" or more simply presentations such as slide shows or movies. This is very helpful in almost any career you choose. We also learned about the Copyright Law and what we can and cannot do with technology.

If I decide to work more on the business side of sports such as a sports agent or a sports marketer, I will have to give a lot of presentations to try and sell what ever company or athlete I am representing so this will be a very helpful skill for me down the road and also I will know to give  credit to anyone that deserves when the work is not all mine so that I don't infringe upon the Copyright Law.

I choose this video as my outside source because it explains the copyright law in great detail and much better then I could to someone.

Week 3-Web Technology

                In Class this week we discussed web technology and mainly we created our blogs and discussed Web 2.0 tools. We discussed how these Web 2.0 tools have greatly increased our technology and has really allowed for the growth of many industries and bussnesses. These tools include Social Networking tools such as the incredibly popular Facebook and Twitter. Almost all college students use these two sites daily and that just shows how advanced we are becoming with our Technology.
               One career I wanna pursue is to be a College football coach one day and you may think that none of this technology can really help or aid a football coach. However as an athelete I know many coaches that use these Networking sites to stay in contact with players and recruits and they can be very beneficial in my field.
               I no this is wikipedia but i love Wikipedia and find most of its articles very accurate and informng and this article really goes into detail about Web2.0 and how it works and why it is better.

Google Docs in my field

This one is a little harder I am not exactly sure how Google Docs could help all that much in my field but one career I am considering is coaching college or professional football. A Google doc might be able to help a coaching staff by say one coach can draw up a scouting report on next weeks opponent and then upload it to Google where the other coaches could see it and even edit it before they go over it with their players.

Podcasting in my field

As you know I am a sports management major and pod-casting can definitely help in that field. For example If i wanted to be a sports announcer or host my own radio show, I could start pod-casting all the episodes of the radio show and post them online like in a blog or something so that more people could listen to my radio show.

Imovie-how it can help in my field

I am a sports management major and I am not quite sure what I wanna do for a career but a program like Imovie could be useful in may ways. If I were on the advertising side of a sports franchise it could be used for any kind of advertisements or if i had to present an idea at some kind of board meeting I could easily make a very professional looking slide show or video that expresses my point.

I chose this video because it explains the copyright in an alrigh tway not great but it did use Disney characters which was entertaining for little bit but it did become very annoying after awhile but i choose it anyway.

week 2. Mac vs PC

This week we learned of the differences between a Mac and a PC and really explored how to use and operate a Mac. Before this week I had very little knowledge of how a Mac works because I use a PC and prefer it over the Mac as I find it much simpler and easier to use. It was interesting learning how to use a Mac because so many other people prefer it to the PC.

 I feel like it was good for me to learn how to use a Mac because a person can never have enough tech skills. However, because I am a sports management major and I would like to work more on the business side, I will work more with a PC because they tend to be better with businesses and things like that.

I choose this commercial becuase I prefer the PC to a Mac, so I'm a PC.
